Why Gutter Cleaning Matters at the End of Autumn

Late autumn is the most important time of year to clear your gutters. Once the leaves have fallen, one clean protects your home through the wettest months.

Why the end of autumn?

Leaves, seeds and moss collect in gutters all through October and November. Cleaning too early means they fill up again; cleaning once most trees are bare means the gutters stay clear through winter, when rain is heaviest.

What happens if gutters stay blocked

Rain overflows the gutter and runs down the wall instead of into the drain. Over a winter that can lead to:

  • Damp patches and mould on inside walls
  • Rotting fascia boards and soffits
  • Water pooling against the foundations
  • Frozen, heavy gutters pulling away from the house
  • Green streaks and staining on brickwork and render

Signs your gutters need clearing

Watch the gutters during heavy rain. Water spilling over the edge, plants growing out of the gutter, or a downpipe that stays dry while it pours are all signs of a blockage.

How we do it

We clear gutters by hand or with a gutter vacuum, flush the downpipes, take all the waste away and send you before-and-after photos. You don't need to be home.
